9:00-17:00  (CEST) UTC +2

The first thematic conference of the LIFE WolfAlps EU project will be held fully online, on Zoom and streaming: May 27th will be a day full of speeches by the international team working in the project with the aim of promoting coexistence between humans and wolves. It is an opportunity to take stock of the Alpine wolf population and to communicate the progress of the actions of the international LIFE WolfAlps EU project, which brings together 20 partners in 4 countries.

The morning will be dedicated to the wolf situation in the Alpine countries. The focus will be on problems, solutions and activities carried out in the framework of LIFE WolfAlps EU. It will also be an opportunity to talk about the state of conservation and management of the wolf at European level. These will be explained thanks to the contributions of Marco Cipriani and Marco Notaro from the European Commission’s Directorate General for the Environment and Angelo Salsi, head of the EASME office for projects financed by the Life programme. Also, a round table moderated by Luigi Boitani, president of the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe will take place to discuss the management plans for large carnivores in Europe, looking at the current situation and to the future.

The afternoon will be dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the actions carried out by the project team on an international scale: from the prevention of damage to farming activities through the establishment of intervention teams that support farmers, as well as activities which aim at involving stakeholders and getting in touch with them to find shared solutions for the coexistence. Also, activities to monitor the alpine wolf population and fight poaching will be presented, as well as the role of the anti-poison dog units for prevention. There will also be talks on communication and environmental education activities regarding the wolves and the coexistence with humans.

The event will be held on Zoom with simultaneous translation in 4 languages (Italian, English, French and German), and will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
